DISP COMPLIANCE
FOR LOGISTICS
COMPANIES
Australian logistics companies transporting, storing, or handling Defence materiel — including weapons, ammunition, classified equipment, and sensitive cargo — must hold current DISP membership. Physical security is the primary compliance domain, but ICT, personnel, and governance obligations apply equally.

DEFENCE LOGISTICS REQUIREMENTS
Physical security is the primary DISP domain for logistics — secure storage, transport, and chain-of-custody controls for Defence materiel
Clearance level required for personnel with unescorted access to PROTECTED or above Defence materiel and storage areas
Export control obligations apply to logistics companies handling US-origin defence equipment, components, and technical data
Annual Security Report must be submitted to DSVS — failure results in membership suspension and contract risk
THE COMPLIANCE IMPERATIVE
Why DISP Is Non-Negotiable for Australian Logistics Companies
Defence logistics companies occupy a unique position in the DISP framework — physical security is the dominant compliance domain, but the ICT, personnel, and governance requirements are equally non-negotiable. A logistics company that secures its warehouses but fails to implement Essential Eight ML2 on its transport management systems will fail its DISP assessment.
The chain-of-custody requirements for Defence materiel are particularly stringent. Every movement of classified or sensitive cargo must be documented, authorised, and auditable. DISP requires that this documentation is maintained in a secure system with access controls, audit logs, and retention policies that satisfy the DSPF's information security requirements.
Personnel security for logistics companies extends beyond the warehouse. Drivers, freight handlers, customs brokers, and depot managers who have unescorted access to PROTECTED or above materiel must hold appropriate AGSVA clearances — typically Baseline for OFFICIAL: Sensitive and NV1 for PROTECTED. DISPath manages clearance sponsorship for all relevant roles.
